What skyline does London want? Events

London's skyline is about to be radically transformed. Over the next few years, with the support of the mayor, a series of tall buildings - not only in the City, but also Southwark, Lambeth, Deptford and Tottenham - will change it for ever. But what will we end up with? A collection of popular towers like the Gherkin, or an anarchic array of mediocrity?

The AIRSPACE exhibition reveals to the London public what futures there might be for the space above their heads, and to open up the debate about the way it should be shaped. It illuminates the issues behind towers: the pressures for new development and housing, the concerns about views of St Paul's and other landmarks. Neither for nor against tall buildings in general, it challenges existing policies, and ask if they are well directed, thought through and effective.

"On current form, Livingstone looks set to go down in history as the man who turned London into Shanghai -on- Thames. The fear is that in 10 years' time we will wake up to a riverfront that has been transformed into a Costa del Icon of singular moments."
